ABSTRACT:
A safety guard10has a guard body12shaped such that it will fit over the yoke18of a power take off shaft. The yoke18includes a groove24formed in an outer surface near the end22. Safety guard bearing26is mounted to groove24. Safety guard bearing26also has a groove28formed in an outer surface. Two levers30are pivotally mounted to the safety guard body12by pivot pins that extend through apertures36in the levers30. One end of levers30has a camming member that includes a lobe38. Due to the relative position of the pivot aperture36and the lobe38, the lobe38acts as an over center cam. When lever30is in the locked position, lobe38extends into groove28. Lever30also includes a locking tongue46. When the lever30is moved to the locking position, locking tongue46also extends into groove28on safety guard bearing26. Thus, locking tongue46provides a secondary locking mechanism to assist in maintaining the safety guard10on the safety guard bearing26. Further, shoulder48abuts on the wall52of aperture50to thereby hold the lever in the locking position. Removal of the safety guard involves a simple hand-operated opening of levers30, which then allows the guard to be slid away from the yoke of the power take off.
