ABSTRACT:
A rubbing apparatus of the present invention for rubbing the substrate of a liquid crystal display element cell, comprises: a jig for enclosing a corner of the substrate; a measuring device for measuring the vertical position of a surface of the substrate and outputting a measured value; a comparison device for comparing the measured value with a vertical position of a surface of the jig; and a jig drive device for moving the jig in a vertical direction based on a signal from the comparison means so as to set a difference between the vertical position of the surface of the jig and the vertical position of the surface of the substrate within a predetermined value.
