ABSTRACT:
A nozzle protecting device30of an ink jet type recording apparatus has a cap46which covers nozzles of a recording head and a cap support member47which is connected to the cap45via a spring member80. The distance between the cap46and the cap support member47can be changed by elastic deformation of the spring member80. A vent hole54is formed in the cap46. A valve seat56which covers the terminal portion of the vent hole54is provided. A valve body58is rotatably attached to the lower portion of the cap46. The valve body58selectively abuts on and parts from the valve seat56in accordance with the distance between the cap46and the cap support member47. As a result, the inside of the cap46is opened and closed to air via the vent hole54.
