ABSTRACT:
A method and apparatus for measuring the strength, direction and gradients f an unknown magnetic field, through the use of rotating superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID). The apparatus utilizes SQUID magnetometers, off-diagonal SQUID gradiometers and diagonal SQUID gradiometers mounted upon a rotatable and translatable element to a plurality of positions in space. The instantaneous outputs of a plurality of SQUID devices are electronically analyzed to provide the magnetic field and gradient measurements.
