ABSTRACT:
A wafer shaving cutter includes a plurality of first annular plates alternatingly arranged with spacers or second plates and joined together into a fixed member. Each of the first plates includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced teeth, each tooth having opposed side lands formed in a predetermined gear profile. The width of each tooth on the spacers is smaller than the corresponding tooth width of each tooth on the first plates to form grooves between adjacent cutting edges of adjacent disposed first plates. In one embodiment, a plurality of teeth having a smaller width than the teeth on the first plates are spacedly formed about each of a plurality of second plates alternatingly arranged with the first plates. The major faces of the first plates and the spacers or second plates are surface ground to a smooth finish. In a preferred embodiment, the teeth on the first and second plates are helically arranged along the shaving cutter.
