A rotary piston machine10includes an enclosure12having a cavity14therein with arcuate side walls16a,b,cdefining a plurality of arcuate recesses18a,b,cand a piston member20rotationally disposed in the cavity14. The piston member20includes opposite ends42and43configured to rotationally engage the arcuate side walls16a,b,cand the arcuate recesses18a,b,csuch that compression chambers26a,b,care ultimately formed via the piston member ends42and43cooperatively engaging two arcuate recesses18a,b,c. The two piston member ends42and43each including first and second arcuate edges44and46that sequentially engage cooperating first and second edge portions50a,b,cand52a,b,cof respective arcuate recesses18a,b,c, resulting in two relatively large seals between one end of the piston member20and an arcuate recess18a,b,cduring rotation of the piston member20until forming compression chambers26a,b,c, thereby preventing a fuel-air mixture from “leaking” during the formation of the compression chambers26a,b,c, resulting in maximum power output from the rotary piston machine10.
