ABSTRACT:
A rotary electric switch1comprises a base2having a rotary actuator3mounted thereon, the base2including a pair of substantially parallel, spaced apart substrate layers6, 7. Each layer6, 7has a first surface9, 10which faces the other substrate layer7, 6and a second surface11, 12which faces away from the other substrate layer7, 6, the first surface9, 10of each layer having an electrically conducting contact13, 14, 16provided thereon. At least one of the substrate layers6, 7is deformable towards the other so as to effect an electrical connection between the contacts13, 14, 16on the two layers6, 7, and the rotary actuator3includes a projection21which engages against the second surface11of said deformable substrate layer6so as to press it towards the other layer7in the immediate vicinity of the projection21. In this way, rotation of the rotary actuator3moves the projection21relative to the substrates6, 7and hence varies the point of electrical connection between the contacts13, 14, 16.
