ABSTRACT:
A novel apparatus for harvesting ice from an ice maker is disclosed. A refrigeration system having a hot gas bypass valve and a water cooled condenser is used to make ice. A programmable controller interrupts the water supply to the condenser, causing the condensing pressure to rise rapidly. This pressure increase is sensed by a pressure sensor, which then opens the hot-gas valve, sending hot gaseous refrigerant to the evaporator to harvest the ice.
