ABSTRACT:
A process for improving a residual fuel derived from the distillation of petroleum crude includes originating a thermal shock by injecting water into residual fuel oil which has previously been heated to a temperature close to its boiling point, at a pressure equal to or slightly greater than atmospheric pressure, gas expansion being limited to the duration of the presence of water; and passing the gas formed as a result of the thermal shock to a gas expansion chamber, continuosly cooling the gas in a heat exchanger; and withdrawing the thereby liquified gas free from impurities.
