ABSTRACT:
Phenols are separated from phenol-containing hydrocarbonaceous streams by use of multivalent metal oxides and/or hydroxides whereupon the resulting hydroxy metal phenate is reacted with one or more alcohols selected from the group consisting of the C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 aliphatic primary alcohols and the C.sub.7 to C.sub.16 arylalkyl primary alcohols.
