ABSTRACT:
The invention is a process for reducing catalyst residues from a Group VIII metal compound-containing polymer of CO, ethylene and optionally at least one olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon. The process comprises contacting the polymer with an effective amount of carbon monoxide or a carbon monoxide-containing gas. It is preferable for the process to use a carbon monoxide partial pressure of at least 0.1 bar and a temperature of at least 60.degree. C., which temperature is at least 20.degree. C. higher than that at which the polymers were prepared.
