ABSTRACT:
Slidably mounted within the cylinder108of the accumulator46is a piston48. A spring50is positioned behind the piston48, which biases the piston48toward port56. The portion of the cylinder108occupied by spring50is vented to the atmosphere by breather52, which allows air to pass in and out of cylinder108. As a result of the spring50acting on the piston48, fluid is collected, stored, and released from the cylinder108under pressure. It should be understood that the accumulator could collect, store and release fluid under pressure using energy storage devices other than spring50. For example, the accumulator46could be gas.
