ABSTRACT:
A lamp assembly10has a light source12having two sealed electrodes14, 16, sealed in a seal area17and defining a lamp axis18. A concave shell20has an internal surface22with a reflective surface23formed thereon. The concave shell20has a neck24defining a neck cavity26and a reflector axis28. The neck24is provided with an electrical connection30and a mechanical support for the light source12. The shell20surrounds the source12to reflect light from the source12to a field to be illuminated during lamp operation. The source12and the reflector surface23are oriented with the lamp axis18substantially co-axial with the reflector axis28, and at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes, for example,14, extends into the neck cavity26. A zone32is formed in the neck cavity26for substantially redirecting specular reflection away from the seal area.
