ABSTRACT:
The rates of oxidation of sulfite/bisulfite-containing solutions in gas-liquid scrubbers for removing SO.sub.2 from gases are reduced by adding oxidation inhibitors to the solutions in an amount of from 0.02 to 20 mmol per hour and per square meter of exchange area.
