A coil spring103is wound around a rotational shaft15with its one end portion103abeing inserted into an engagement groove100aformed in a side wall of a direct-coupled gear100and with its other end portion103bbeing inserted in an engagement groove93aprovided in a front wall93of a paper cassette6. The elastic force generated by the coil spring103functions as a pressing force for restraining the torque of the rotational shaft15that is generated by the driving force from a DC motor70. The amount of the elastic force increases as the height of a paper pressing plate8increases. Accordingly, a variation in the height of the topmost sheet3, which will possibly occur due to changes in the amount of recording medium3placed on a mounting plate8, can be restrained.
