A recording material comprises a layer containing a leuco dye provided on a support, characterized in that the leuco dye has the following formula (I): ##STR1## in which each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently is an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an aryl group; R.sup.3 is an alkyl group or an aralkyl group; X is ##STR2## and each of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, X and the benzene rings A, B, C and D may have one or more substituent groups.
