ABSTRACT:
A rear converter for use between a detachable photographing lens and a camera body, which can be used with both AE (automatic exposure) and AF (automatic focusing) lenses and camera bodies, as well as with camera bodies which do not have AE or AF capabilities. A first electrical contact projecting from the body mount side of the converter contacts the lens mount of a camera body; if the body does not have AF capabilities, the contact is grounded, rendering a read-only-memory (ROM) in the converter inoperative, so that the camera operates without AF function. A second electrical contact projecting from the lens mount side of the converter contacts the body mount of a camera lens; if the lens does have AF capabilities, the contact is grounded, rendering the ROM inoperative and enabling the AF lens to function normally without interference from the converter.
