ABSTRACT:
A reactive medium comprising reactive particles having a surface area of about 300 m2/gm to about 1500 m2/gm and a size in the range of from about 0.10 mm to about 4 mm. The reactive particles include particles of an inorganic material, including carbon, and active metal sites, including sodium bonded to the carbon. The reactive medium can remove impurities to trace levels and has a high capacity for contaminants.
