ABSTRACT:
A re-entrant microwave resonant cavity comprises a stub6. A cylindrical wall2, first end wall3and the stub6are integrally formed. A second end wall4is defined by a metallization layer8deposited on a printed circuit board substrate9. The parts are joined using surface mount soldering processes. The end11of the stub6defines a gap12. A rostrum14faces the end of the stub6. The rostrum14is manufactured separately and then fixed to the substrate9. A dielectric sphere16is located between the end11of the probe stub6and the rostrum14. The dielectric sphere16maintains the gap size during use and aids in correct positioning of the parts during manufacture.
