ABSTRACT:
A polymerization process which comprises contacting at least one polar acrylic type or maleimide monomer under polymerization conditions with (i) a tetracoordinate organosilicon, organotin or organogermanium initiator having at least one initiating site, (ii) a co-catalyst which is a source of fluoride, bifluoride, cyanide or azide ions or a Lewis acid, and (iii) from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the weight of monomer, of acetonitrile.
