A radiation imaging apparatus comprises a pixel region, on an insulating substrate100, including a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix, each pixel having a conversion element101that converts radiation into electric charges and a switching element102connected to the conversion element101. The conversion element101has an upper electrode layer119, a lower electrode layer115, a semiconductor layer117arranged between the upper electrode layer119and the lower electrode layer115. The upper electrode layer119or the lower electrode layer115has an opening200at least within a region where the semiconductor layer117is arranged.
