ABSTRACT:
An improved tread pattern for a pneumatic tire includes four or five circumferential ribs including inner and outer shoulder ribs, each having a set of lateral grooves extending from their respective shoulders toward but not reaching an adjacent circumferential groove, the shoulder ribs also having multiple sipes arranged between adjacent pairs of lateral grooves. The width of at least one shoulder rib is between about17% and about19% of the width of the tread, while the land-sea surface area ratio defined by the tread is about4–8% larger than the void volume ratio defined by the tread.
