ABSTRACT:
A high pressure gas tank has its output closely connected to the input of a Joule Thomson cryostat. The valve which releases the high pressure is a plug of electrically conductive thermally degradable material located in the line. An electrical pulse is applied to the plug to cause it to degrade and to permit the flow of pressurized refrigerant gas from the high pressure gas tank through the cryostat.
