ABSTRACT:
Purines useful for the potentiation of antibiotics, particularly phleomycin and bleomycin, have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein W is selected from the group consisting of --SRCONR.sup.1 R.sup.2, --SRCN, and --SRCOR.sup.1, in which R is a --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- group (n is an integer of 1 to 5) which may bear one or more side chain alkyl groups each having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, are selected from hydrogen atoms and straight or branched chain alkyl groups having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, or alternatively, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 together comprise a polymethylene, oxapolymethylene or thiapolymethylene chain containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms;
