The invention comprises a preparation of X-S-Cys-X, moiety, BRAUNMYCIN Î>>, where X maybe naturally linked peptide or glycan residues essential for iron-reductase activity, as well as methods of obtaining preparation from an iron-nitriloacetic acid iron binding jaw, BRAUNMYCIN8567, a component of a batch affinity column; and any interpretation derived from this outcome, like, but not limited to, detection of resistance, to iron-containing antibiotics, in DNA synthesizing cells.
