ABSTRACT:
A feedstock selected from the group consisting of polyoxyethylene glycols, polyoxypropylene glycols and monoalkyl ethers thereof having molecular weights of about 200 to about 5,000 and contaminated with more than about 100 ppm of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal ions is purified by bringing said feedstock into contact with a basic ion exchange resin in the presence of about 2 to about 10 wt. % of water, based on the weight of the feedstock at a temperature of about 25.degree. to about 100.degree. C. and a pressure of about 0 to about 100 psig. for a period of time sufficient to lower the impurity level of said ions by at least about 90% to a level of less than about 100 ppm,
the basic ion exchange resin being a fully hydrated boron specific basic styrene-divinyl benzene ion exchange resin in the free base form having an apparent density of about 40 to 45 lbs. per cubic foot.
