ABSTRACT:
Low melting point glasses using B.sub.2 O.sub.3 or P.sub.2 O.sub.5 encapsulation materials are provided with protection against corrosion by heating in an atmosphere containing P.sub.2 O.sub.5 or B.sub.2 O.sub.3 respectively. A thin surface film of glass containing both boron and phosphorus oxides is formed.
