ABSTRACT:
There is disclosed a process for the production of 3-amino-4,6-diacetyl phenol, or a derivative thereof, which comprises reacting a compound of formula III, ##STR1## or a protected derivative thereof, in which R is acetyl or hydrogen, with an excess of acetyl chloride or acetyl bromide and aluminium chloride or aluminium bromide at a temperature of from 30.degree. to 50.degree. C. in an halogenated hydrocarbon solvent.
