ABSTRACT:
Ionones and irones are produced by thermal rearrangement of novel propargylic alcohols, as follows: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a lower alkyl group, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl and the dotted lines in the product formula reflect the existence of a double bond at either one or the other of the positions indicated.
