ABSTRACT:
2-Ethyl hexanal is produced by hydrogenation of 2-ethyl hexene-2-al-1 without substantial formation of by-product 2-ethyl hexanol by liquid phase upflow through a catalyst bed with controlled hydrogen concentration at 90.degree.-180.degree. C and a pressure of 5-40 Kgm/cm.sup.2.
