ABSTRACT:
Catalyst supports, catalyst systems, methods for the preparation thereof, in dimerization processes therewith are provided. Catalyst supports are prepared from extruding alkali metal carbonate and a liquid. Optionally, the extruded catalyst support further comprises a carbonaceous compound. Catalyst systems comprise at least one elemental alkali metal deposited on the extruded catalyst support. Optionally, the catalyst system further comprises of at least one promoter. A hydrided catalyst system is prepared by contacting the catalyst system with hydrogen to reduce the dimerization induction period.
