ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of oxiranes of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are hydrogen, methyl and/or ethyl and the total amount of carbon atoms of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is utmost 2 wherein olefin is subjected to an electrochemical system and reacts with a chlorine-containing anolyte to form an olefin chlorohydrin, with the latter subsequently reacted to form the oxirane.
The oxiranes are known compounds and are extensively used in the chemical field, for example, in the manufacture of detergents, polyethers, etc.
