ABSTRACT:
Process for the partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon feedstock, comprising the steps of gasification, partial oxidation and removal of the carbon by forming a soot water slurry containing the unburned carbon and ash and filtration of the soot water slurry to form a filtercake of carbon and ash, wherein the filter cake is dried by means of a fluid bed and the dried filtercake is burned at temperatures between 600.degree. C. and 1000.degree. C. Preferably The fluid bed is operated by means of a fluidizing gas at a temperature of at least 150.degree. C. The dried filtercake is burned under circumstances that carbon is left in the resulting ash.
