ABSTRACT:
A method of providing maximum frequencies of transduction with Escherichia coli strains, such as E. coli K12 .chi.1776, that are transduced poorly in the exponential growth phase, which comprises transducing the culture in the stationary phase of growth. E. coli K12 .chi.1776 strains modified by transduction using this method are useful as EK2 hosts for biological containment.
