ABSTRACT:
A novel process for the preparation of 3-chloro-4-hydroxyacetanilide in high yields is disclosed which involves reacting N-acetyl-para-aminophenol (APAP) with sulfuryl chloride (SO.sub.2 Cl.sub.2) as the chlorine source and liquid SO.sub.2 as the reaction medium.
