ABSTRACT:
A process for the resolution of amminoesters of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 have the meanings reported in the specification, by tartaric acid and analogs thereof, is described. The compounds of formula IV-A are intermediates useful in the preparation of optically active (2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,5-benzothiazepin-4(5H)ones.
