ABSTRACT:
Carbonates with aromatic ester groups may be produced by reacting aromatic monohydroxy compounds with phosgene or with chlorocarbonates of aromatic monohydroxy compounds, wherein a temperature in the range from 50.degree. to 450.degree. C. and a pressure in the range from 0.05 to 20 bar are used in the presence of hard materials with metal-like properties (ceramic precursors) as heterogeneous catalysts.
