ABSTRACT:
Process for the production of 2-R.sup.1 substituted-4- hydroxy-5-R.sup.2 substituted -6-hydroxy methyl-pyrimidines having the following general formula: ##EQU1## wherein R.sup.1 can be an alkyl group, a phenyl group or --H, and wherein R.sup.2 can be an alkyl group, a phenyl group or --H. The process includes reacting a 2-R.sup.1 substituted -4-hydroxy-5-R.sup.2 substituted -6-chloromethyl-pyrimidine having the following general formula: ##EQU2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are defined as above, with water under reflux at a pH value of 4 to 8.
