ABSTRACT:
Process for the production of 4-alkoxyacetoacetic acid esters from 4-chloro or 4-bromoacetoacetic acid esters. 4-chloro or 4-bromoacetoacetic acid ester is reacted with more than one equivalent of an alkali alcoholate in an aprotic solvent effectively at a temperature of 50.degree. to 100.degree. C.
