ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of aromatic oligocarbonates from dihydroxy compounds, CO and O.sub.2 in the presence of a platinum metal catalyst, a cocatalyst, a quaternary salt and a base, which is carried out in an inert organic solvent which, under the reaction conditions, forms an azeotrope with water, and this azeotrope is removed from the reaction mixture.
