ABSTRACT:
A process for the recovery of metal carbides from ferroalloys and nickel alloys of niobium, tantalum, vanadium, and hydrides thereof is disclosed. The selected ferroalloy or nickel alloy is contacted with a hydrogen containing gas, subdivided, and carbided by contact with a hydrocarbon containing gas at a temperature above 500.degree. C. The carbided reaction product is then leached with an aqueous acid solution for recovery.
