ABSTRACT:
A ferronickel concentrate is produced by reducing a lateritic ore comprising less than 1.5% w of nickel at a temperature of from 920.degree. to 1120.degree. C. with a CO/CO.sub.2 mixture in the presence of a S-compound, such as Na.sub.2 SO.sub.4 or FeSO.sub.4 or FeS, and subjecting the reduced product to magnetic separation.
