ABSTRACT:
A fermentation process for the preparation of 7.alpha.-hydroxylated steroids utilizing strains of the genus Mucor is disclosed. The 7.alpha.-hydroxylated steroids are useful intermediates for the synthesis of chenodeoxycholic acid as well as steroidal hormones.
