ABSTRACT:
The present invention involves a method for the preparation of the title compound which method involves reacting, in a suitable solvent, 1,4,5,8-tetrahydronaphthalene or 9,10-dihydroxy-1,4,5,8-tetrahydronaphthalene with IO.sub.4.sup.- in the presence of a catalytic amount of RuO.sub.2. The title compound is useful as a chelating agent.
