ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of 17.alpha. -hydroxy-21-acyloxy-progesterone, in particular of 17.alpha.-hydroxy-21-acetoxy-progesterone (Reichstein's substance S acetate) which is of great importance as a starting material for the manufacture of hydrocortisone.
