ABSTRACT:
A process for the hydroformylation of less reactive olefins with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a Group VIII-metal hydroformylation catalyst which has been modified by a ligand of formula L(OR.sup.1) (OR.sup.2)(OR.sup.3), wherein L represents P or As and R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are similar or dissimilar aryl groups provided that at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 is a group ##STR1## wherein Q represents a group ##STR2## or a group ##STR3## wherein R.sup.4 is an optionally fluorine-substituted hydrocarbyl group, R.sup.5 is H or R.sup.4, R.sup.6 is H or an inert substituent on the metal and/or the para position of the ring, X is O or S and n is 0 or 1 and R.sup.7 represents a hydrogen atom or an inert substituent. Less reactive olefins such as limonene can be hydroformylated with very good results.
