ABSTRACT:
A process for the chlorination of the carboxylic group of .alpha.-aminoacids is described whereby an aminoacid (e.g. p-hydroxy-phenyl-glycine) is suspended in an anhydrous solvent such as dioxane and treated with a chlorinating agent of the formula: ##STR1## in the presence of HCl in excess. The preferred chlorinating agent is chloromethylene-dimethylammonium chloride.
