ABSTRACT:
A process for the carbonylation of unsaturated compounds by contacting the unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst system comprising:(a) a source of palladium and/or platinum; and(b) an unsymmetrical bidentate diphosphine ligand of formula I,in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?R1R2>P1−R3−P2<R4R5  (I)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein P1and P2represent phosphorus atoms; R3represents a divalent organic bridging group; and R1, R2, R4and R5each individually, or R1and R2jointly, and/or R4and R5jointly represent organic groups that are covalently linked to the phosphorus; and wherein R1, R2, R4and R5are chosen in such way, that the phosphino group R1R2>P1differs from the phosphino group P2<R4R5.
