ABSTRACT:
A process for separating and recovering aluminum lining from a ferrous backing strip without incurring appreciable formation of contaminating iron-aluminum intermetallic compounds by subjecting bimetallic scrap to intense radiant heat to effect rapid heating thereof through the critical temperature range of about 842.degree. F. to above the melting point of the aluminum component and removing the liquid aluminum as it melts.
