ABSTRACT:
A process for removing an adhered substance from steel ingots, which comprises heating or cooling a steel ingot after the casting under such conditions that the heating or cooling rate at the surface layer portion of the steel ingot is not less than 2.degree. C./sec and the temperature difference between the starting and end points is not less than 300.degree. C.
